Accessing Acme Corp Policies - Employee Guide¶
Welcome! This guide will help you access Acme Corp's company policies through GitHub.

Our policy repository contains: - IT policies (security, remote work, acceptable use, etc.) - HR policies (onboarding, training, etc.) - Compliance policies - Data privacy and security policies
?? Getting Access (One-Time Setup)¶
Step 1: Create a GitHub Account (If You Don't Have One)¶
- Go to https://github.com/signup
- Use your @acmecorp.com email address (recommended)
- Choose a username (can be your name or anything professional)
- Verify your email address
- That's it! GitHub accounts are free.
Already have a GitHub account? You can use your existing account - just make sure to add your acmecorp.com email to your GitHub profile.
Step 2: Send Your GitHub Username to IT¶
Email bert@acmecorp.com with:
Subject: Policy Repository Access Request
Hi IT Team,
Please grant me access to the Acme Corp policies repository.
GitHub Username: [your-username-here]
Thanks!
Step 3: Accept the Invitation¶
- You'll receive an email from GitHub with the subject: "You've been invited to join the acmecorp/policy-repository repository"
- Click "View invitation" in the email
- Click "Accept invitation" on the GitHub page
- Done! You now have access.

Once you have access, you can view policies anytime:

- Main Page - Overview with quick links to common policies
- Policy Index - Complete list of all policies organized by category
- Individual Policies - Click any policy to read it
- Search - Use GitHub's search to find specific topics
Navigation Tips¶
- Click "Policy Index" to see all policies organized by category
- Use the breadcrumb links at the top of each policy to go back
- Use Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) to search within a page
- Bookmark frequently-used policies in your browser

? Common Questions¶
Do I need to install anything?¶
No! Just use your web browser. GitHub works on any device.
Can I access policies on my phone?¶
Yes! The repository works on mobile browsers and the GitHub app.
What if I forget my GitHub password?¶
Use the "Forgot password" link at https://github.com/login to reset it.
Can I download policies as PDFs?¶
You can view and print policies from your browser. Each policy is in markdown format (like a text document).
What if I can't access a policy?¶
Contact it@acmecorp.com - you may need to accept your repository invitation or update permissions.
Can I suggest changes to a policy?¶
Yes! Contact the policy owner listed at the top of each policy, or email it@acmecorp.com.

?? Security & Privacy¶
Securing Your GitHub Account¶
Required Security Measures:
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) - Required for all GitHub accounts accessing company resources
- Use a strong, unique password - Follow our Password Policy
- Enable SSO with Google Workspace (Recommended) - Sign in to GitHub using your Google Workspace account for enhanced security
- Go to GitHub Settings ? Account Security ? Enable SSO
- Connect your @acmecorp.com Google Workspace account
Repository Access:
- The repository is private - Only Acme Corp employees with access can view it
- Don't share access - Each employee needs their own GitHub account
- Policies are confidential - Don't copy or share outside the company
Why SSO? Using Google Workspace SSO to sign in to GitHub provides additional security and ensures your GitHub access is automatically managed when you join or leave the company.
